Vladimir Putin to leave Russia for first time since the Ukraine invasion
Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Tajikistan on Tuesday and then visit Turkmenistan for the peak meeting of the Kaspia Sea nation, his spokesman said, on the first foreign journey by Russian leaders since the Ukraine invasion in February.
Putin will hold talks with President Tajik Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, a spokesman for the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov told a conference call with reporters on Monday. He will also attend the Caspian Summit in Turkmenistan Wednesday, according to Peskov.
The last Russian president abroad was in early February when he visited Beijing for talks with Chinese colleague Xi Jinping during the Winter Olympics.
Putin has received an invitation to attend the G-20 Summit in Indonesia in November but Kremlin has not said whether he will go directly or participate online.
