2 Russian diplomats among several killed in blast outside embassy in Kabul
Two Russian diplomats were killed with several local residents in an explosion outside the state embassy in the capital of Afghanistan Kabul on Monday
The Russian Foreign Ministry said two diplomatic mission employees were killed, added that there were victims among Afghan residents as well.
Afghan police previously said a suicide bomber had blew up an explosive near the entrance of the Russian Embassy in Darulaman Road in Kabul, added that the attacker was shot dead by armed guards when he approached the gate.
The suicide striker before reaching the target, was recognized and shot by the Russian Embassy guard (Taliban) … There was no information about the victim,” Mawlawi Sabir, head of the police district where the attack occurred, was quoted as saying by telling Reuters. The Afghan Taliban government is investigating the incident, said Deputy Spokesman Bilal Karimi.
Russia is one of the few countries that defended the embassy in Kabul after the Taliban took over the country more than a year ago. Although Moscow did not officially recognize the Taliban government, they had held talks with officials for agreements to supply gasoline and other commodities.
