Foreign Affairs | Despite Russia-Ukraine crisis, India must keep its focus on Afghanistan
During his newly concluded visit to Afghanistan, the United Nations High Commissioner for the Chief of Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi emphasized the importance of the global community that did not forget his humanitarian obligations towards Afghanistan, because of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Grandi emphasized the need for a sustainable “generous response” from the world, to support the Afghans.
A similar focus is needed by India in continuing its agenda in Afghanistan, regardless of disruption caused by a diplomatic tightrope trajectory due to Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
High among Indian priorities must be reopened by the embassy in Afghanistan, so security staff are confirmed. Full functioning diplomatic mission will contribute greatly to secure and advance the interests of India in the country.
Fortunately for India, the Taliban was also excited for New Delhi to not only reopen the embassy in Kabul, but also began to operate additional consulates in various parts of Afghanistan, and had provided security guarantees.
The Emirates of Islam which lacks cash views this as an important step in the search for international legitimacy, given the lack of formal global recognition, even among fellow Muslim countries. This, in addition to Indian humanitarian assistance initiatives such as wheat shipments to Afghanistan, present Indian diplomats with increased leverage in securing beneficial requirements.
Given the recording of the trace of the vile Taliban human rights, and Draconian treatment of women in particular, India must attach expansion of aid or investment in Afghanistan for real and identified civil liberties. This is the moral obligation of India as the largest democracy in the world, and should not be damaged by a number of strategic realism.
The Taliban government education ministry initially announced that girls could return to school, but then returned there. After this World Bank has now postponed four projects worth $ 600 million. Given this, New Delhi must be careful and firm in his help and assistance to Kabul.
