Chinese company ‘sneaking’ voice samples of Indians in border states, US think tank claims
Voice samples from “Military Sensitive Areas in India”, including Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, are being collected by AI companies based in Beijing through Indian intermediaries and then sold to agencies in China for “Use and Analysis”, based in the US and the US Think tank has claimed.
In a report, New Kite Data Labs, which examined how China used and utilized data, had accused that companies based in Beijing, speeches, had a close relationship with Chinese security agents and people’s liberation army.
Data collected by this company, allegedly, can be used by China to be involved in “Automatic Extra-Territorial Mass Supervision”.
Speaking to The Print, Christopher Balding, an academic and founder of the New Kite Labs, said that the speech (SO) worked with subcontractors based in Delhi, an outsourcing company business process (BPO), to recruit individuals to record their votes from specifically India, especially military areas.
These people are paid a small amount of money to record phrases, words, sentences in their language and accent. This recording is collected using a speech application, which can be downloaded to your cellphone. So, people from Kashmir, Punjab were identified and paid for money to record samples of their votes, without really leaking goals. These samples were then sold to China, “Balding, who led the investigation, was accused.
In the implications of voting data from India sent to China, bald claimed that the speech was “known” to be sold to the Chinese military.
Speech efforts to obscure their activities on behalf of the Chinese security agency raises legitimate security questions and imply this data is used to train technological tools involved in mass supervision outside China,” Balding said.
On his website, Speechocean described himself as a provider of artificial intelligence data resources which is devoted to supply “Product and Technical Data Services for Companies and Scientific Research Institutions throughout the AI Industry Chain”.
