Sweet Tooth has been confirmed for a second season on Netflix. In 2022, production on Robert Downy Jr.’s family adventure series will resume in New Zealand. Here’s the most up-to-date information on Sweet Tooth season 2, including what new characters will appear when shooting begins, what we can expect, and more.

Sweet Tooth premiered on Netflix on June 4th, 2021, based on Jeff Lemire’s comic book. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a viral outbreak has wiped off the majority of humanity. Hybrid kids are also born around this time. Our narrative follows Gus, a young child who is half-human and half-deer who lives with his father in a distant region.

Release date rumors for Sweet Tooth season 2

Because Sweet Tooth was only renewed for a second season on July 29, the release date for season 2 is likely to be delayed. Given that Netflix’s original programs often have a 12- to the 18-month gap between seasons (looking at you, Ozark! ), Sweet Tooth season 2 is unlikely to debut before late 2022 or perhaps early 2023. That again, things might change at any time, especially given the COVID-19 delays that many projects have experienced and continue to experience. In other words, it’s still up in the air, but Netflix recognizes that fans are eagerly anticipating new episodes and will do everything necessary to provide them as quickly as possible.

The second season of Sweet Tooth is currently under production.

There’s no information about whether or not the second season of Sweet Tooth has started shooting, or when it might start if it hasn’t already. Although considering the production’s size and the fact that post-production to incorporate and finalize CGI and other special effects is expected to take a long time, shooting should commence in the coming months if it hasn’t already in order to keep season 2 on schedule. Season 1 of Sweet Tooth, while being set in the United States, was shot in New Zealand, and was one of the few projects authorized to do so in 2020 due to the country’s lockdown. The program will most likely return to New Zealand for season 2 for reasons of continuity.

Characters of the second season of Sweet Tooth

There haven’t been any official cast confirmations for the second season yet, but the composition isn’t expected to change drastically. Christian Convery, as Gus/Sweet Tooth, is almost guaranteed to return, as are Dania Ramirez, Nonso Anozie, and Will Forte, respectively, as Aimee Eden, Tommy Jepperd/Big Man, and Pubba.

Adeel Akhtar as Dr. Aditya Singh, Stefania LaVie Owen as Bear/Rebecca Walker, Neil Sandilands as General Douglas Abbot, and, of course, James Brolin as the Narrator are all expected to return. Keep a watch out for new cast members, but rest assured that, given the lack of major fatalities or losses in the first season, pretty much everyone will be there for season 2.

 Sweet Tooth second season storyline

Gus was ultimately kidnapped by Abbot, who has taken over the Preserve and intends to discover a cure by enabling Singh to experiment on hybrids, as the first season concluded. While Jepperd and Amy want to rescue the children from the lab, there’s no guarantee they’ll be successful, or what the consequences will be if they are.

For the first part of Sweet Tooth season 2, the conflict between Abbot and Gus’s new adoptive family will most certainly take center stage. There’s also the fact that Gus has communicated with his “dead” mother, who is believed to be in Alaska. It will be fascinating to see how that connection develops, as well as what will be disclosed about Gus’ mother’s life and background (since you know there will be some surprises).
