Indian Defense Equipment that uses spare parts, maintenance support from Ukraine can be hit harder by war
The ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war may have a far greater impact on some important equipment in the Inventory of the Indian Armed Forces who received spare parts and other maintenance support from Ukraine, said senior defense officials to News18.com.
As reported by news18.com earlier this week, the formation of Indian defense was mainly concerned about the impact of conflicts that might have supply of after-sales spare parts for several Russian equipment which formed the mainstay of soldiers, navy and the Indian Air Force.
Other planned capital procurement from Russia, such as the Vishorad system and KA-226T utility helicopter, has been postponed. About 60% of Indian military hardware are from Russia.
A defense official to tell news18.com temporarily with Russia, the government is exploring a variety of choices, including diplomatic routes, to keep the supply of major parts and shipping equipment such as the S-400 away, the bigger challenge is to get spare parts from Ukraine hit by war.
The level of damage to Ukrainian military infrastructure has not been confirmed. It must be assessed if the production line for supply of spare parts for various weapons equipment and weapons systems used with the operational Indian armed forces or have seen damage in conflict, “an official said.
Defense sources say some critical equipment that get their spare parts from Ukraine including 130mm medium weapons, spare parts for T-72 tanks and t-90 tanks, surface-to-ak missile systems osa-ak, and tunguska anti weapons systems – Cariv.
The gas turbine engine from several Indian naval ships also comes from Ukraine and the state has also provided critical spare parts for increasing the IAF AN-32 transportation aircraft, a program that has been almost complete.
