Montreal: Canadian authorities found the body of four people including babies who apparently frozen to death in a snowstorm a few meters from the US border along the route used by migrants, officials said Thursday.
The temperature of Wednesday when the bodies were found in the midst of a spacious snow, taking into account the wind, minus 35 degrees Celsius (minus 31 degrees Fahrenheit).

“At this very early investigation stage, it seems they all died because of exposure to cold weather,” said the Royal Canadian police officer installed in a statement.
The body of two adults and babies was found about 12 meters (yards) from the US border of about 10 kilometers (six miles) from Emerson City in Central Manitoba Province.

The fourth person who seems to be a teenager found later, police said.

Previously on that day, the border agent on the US secured a group of people who had just crossed and had babies with them but no baby. It triggered a search on both sides of the border.
The first body was found after four hours of searching.
The US Judiciary department said Thursday they had arrested a man along the same route, billing with human smuggling.

The 47-year-old original Florida was found to drive a van with two Indian citizens who did not documinated in less than a mile in the south of the Canadian border, the department said, near where the migrant group was arrested.
The deceased nationality was not given, even though the US Department of Justice said they were “identified tentally” to separate members of the same group being arrested.

Manitoba assistant commissioner Jane Maclatchy said at the previous press conference he considered these people “victims.”
“We are very worried that these crossing efforts may have been facilitated in a certain way and that these individuals including a baby are left alone in the midst of a snowstorm when the weather has floated around minus 35 degrees Celsius, taking into account the wind,” he said.

“These victims do not only face cold weather, but also endless fields, large snow, and total darkness,” he added.
Police use snowmobiles and other terrain vehicles to find areas.

Emerson is along the route used by migrants to travel between the United States and Canada.
The intersection efforts have dropped for a year because the border has been closed due to a pandemic, Maclatchy said.
