Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan said that his country followed the footsteps of India and remained neutral on the Russia and Ukraine conflict. The ouster prime minister said that former Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had asked him to condemn Russia for invading Ukraine but he did not do so citing India’s stance.

On my return from Russia visit (a year ago being premier), Gen Bajwa asked me to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. I told him that India, which is a strategic ally of the US, is staying neutral. So, Pakistan should stay neutral,” Khan said at an event on Monday. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief said that after he refused to call out Russia, General Bajwa himself condemned the country at a security seminar to appease the US.

He alleged that Bajwa had asked him to condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin to appease the United States but he chose to put “Pakistan’s interest above”.India has time and again urged Russia and Ukraine to choose the path of diplomacy and dialogue and end their ongoing conflict.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also spoken to the presidents of both countries several times and appealed to them to return to the path of diplomacy and dialogue for the resolution of the conflict and pressed for an immediate cessation of hostilities

PM Modi during a bilateral meeting with Putin in September last year on the sidelines of the annual SCO summit in Uzbekistan urged him to end the conflict in Ukraine soon, saying “today’s era is not of war”.
